Cloud Computing and the Enterprise: Transparency is the Key
As Director of Global Security Solutions at CSC and a member of the Leading Edge Forum of researchers, Ron Knode has spent three decades helping enterprises solve the challenges of adapting their information technology infrastructure.
For the past few years, Knode and the LEF team — which comprises academic and executive luminaries from numerous industries — have been studying the developments in cloud computing, helping chart CSC’s course as the cloud went from wonderful possibility to necessary innovation across all industries.
In an emerging field, there are no true "case studies"; there are only early experiments. So to learn from these lessons, Trusted Cloud Services turned to Knode and his LEF colleagues. They identified 7 seminal stories that explain the power and benefits of adopting cloud computing. Each organization encountered unique challenges and benefits, as listed; the links provide a more detailed account of each case.
- Educational Testing Service (ETS) — On-demand computing, Cloud Security
- Towson University — Cloud Mail Migration, Policy Compliance
- Bechtel — Collaboration, Application Development
- General Electric — Private Cloud, Software-as-a-Service
- British Petroleum — Security, Elasticity, Resource Availability
- Eli Lilly — Multi-tenancy, Time-To-Market, IP Protection
- FedEx — Computing Load Surge, Hardware Replacement
CSC also conducted an early foray into cloud computing — but not as part of its normal business and technology activities. CSC's first cloud experiments were aimed at communicating the success of cycling's world-class Team CSC.
Knode presents a thorough, comprehensive look at some of these cases, as well as his current work in developing the CSC CloudTrust Protocol, in a downloadable research paper, "Digital Trust In The Cloud."
We look forward to sharing more success stories and challenges as they develop. We also invite you to share cloud computing enterprise case studies that others might find instructional. Send stories to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
